It’s fun, but if you want something like this that’s actually good, read planet of adventure by Jack Vance. I didn’t go in to this expecting a masterpiece that changed the game, and made me think. I was entsceidung for a fun licensed sci-fi book.

And that’s exactly what I got. Rrift you like that kind of stuff you could do a lot worse. I’m a fan of Battletech and this scratched the itch I had so it gets three stars. Aug 31, Jonathan rated it it was amazing. Great story, plenty of action. May 13, Drinkinwookie rated it did not like it. One star but add 4 stars to that review if you are 12 year old me.

Entscheidung am Thunder Rift

To be fair this book had some things to recommend it. The villains nefarious plot is well thought out, the climax is tactically thundet and juggles three thundfr battles deftly switching at just the right moment and an honest attempt is made at describing the alien planet’s topography and climate in a science fiction-y way. What dooms the book is that the characters are drawn so shallowly that to call them 1 dimensional One star but add 4 stars to that review if you are 12 year old me.

What dooms the book is that the characters are drawn so shallowly that to call them 1 dimensional might do them too much credit. This was the author’s first book and he managed to parley it into a long career as a writer so there’s that.

A fantastic Battletech and Military Science Fiction novel. While a little bit shallow with the characters, this book delivers with vivid battle scenes and great writing. It’s about Grayson Death Carlyle and his quest for vengeance against the people that killed his family.

He is left stranded on a strange planet as he pulls together a force of Mechwarriors to protect his new home from invaders, all the while struggling with an inner conflict of him choosing between his new family, and revenge. This is an excellent entry into the Battletech universe if you are looking to get into this franchise.

Eigentlich viel besser als durch das alberne Cover und die mangahaften Zeichnungen zu erwarten war. Die politische Handlung ist erstaunlich gut und sm. Good book, gun read First BattleTech tnunder I ever read, and I enjoyed the story and character development. I actually would like to hear more about the protagonists and if they appear in later books.

May 16, Cody rated it really liked it. I was enjoying the new PC game and was happy to thjnder some of entscyeidung old books available in epub for cheap. I might have read this one back in the day, but it felt fresh and fun and not dated at all. Recommended for any fans of Battletech!

Dec 26, David Bishop rated it liked it. Big mechs get blown up real good. Good fluff, average sci fi A good book if you a re fan of the Battletech universe.

Some poorly scanned pages makes reading confusing sometimes. Oct 10, David rated it really liked it. A decently written tie-in novel that scratches one’s itch for meaty combat between giant robots.

This review is specific to the digital Kindle version. I had many of the original BT books in print from my high school days back before my arthritis got as bad as it is now and I switched to ebooks only.

The original print versions have been out of circulation for a long time, so when I started playing the newest computer entscheeidung I did some digging and found that they added digital support for most of the older books under a Legends imprint. The novel itself stood up well to my recollection, but t This review is specific to the digital Kindle version.

A huge number of missing periods, some typos like “m” instead of “in” Decision at Thunder Rift takes place rntscheidung the Battletech game universe, where soldiers fight entschsidung in giant robots called Mechs. I heard about this book on a podcast in which the hosts are Battletech players. Battletech has a huge backstory and I appreciated this book in that it focused on a small corner of that universe. All of the action takes place on a backwater planet.

The battles are small and personal.

Decision at Thunder Rift by William H. Keith Jr.

The politics of the Battletech universe made sense and did not overwhelm me. I would recom Decision at Thunder Rift takes place in the Battletech game universe, where soldiers fight wars in giant robots called Mechs. I thudner recommend this as someone’s first Battletech novel.

Oct 07, Kynan rated it liked it Shelves: Most rlft recommend skipping The Sword and the Dagger, for a variety of reasons, but mostly “because it’s terrible”. First off, if you like me came to BattleTech looking for giant fighting robots then you’re going to be Finished: First off, if you like me came to BattleTech looking for giant fighting robots then you’re going to be a eentscheidung camper!

We’ve got giant robots fighting giant robots, giant robots fighting entsxheidung, giant robots fighting people, if there’s something to be fought, you’re going to find a giant robot fighting thundef I don’t have any complaints about this book! It’s a bit action movie but sometimes that’s what you’re after!

Strap in, suspend disbelief, have fun! The beginning of the Gray Death Legion is one of the first novels to expand on the Battletech role playing game. The great thing about the novels is that they stand apart from the tabletop game.

No knowledge of the game is required. As one of the first, it’s also one of the best jumping on points for new readers. There is a lot of game-established jargon here, but Keith Jr. The novel The beginning of the Gray Death Legion is one of the first novels to expand on the Battletech role playing game. The novel starts off a little slow and spends a bit too much time setting up characters that won’t be seen or referenced for the rest of the novel, but once it gets going it thknder stop.

Indeed, beyond the politicing part of every Battletech novel, the true strength of the novel is in the action sequences. Action is difficult to convey using the written word, but Keith’s visuals are vivid throughout.

Unfortunately the villains aren’t too fleshed out. They’re simply there to set the plot in motion. In fact, even with superior Mech tonnage, numbers and training, they never feel very threatening.

Still, the combat is the true star of the book and left me wanting to read the rest of the Gray Death series. Science Fiction and Anime fans, as well as fans of the Battletech computer and miniatures games. This is a great primer for the Battletech Universe. It really sets the tone and gives the reader a great idea of what it is to fight with and against these massive machines and how it changes warfare completely.

The concepts of fighting these incredible weapons is well drawn out here – from infantry tactics to vehicle and even Mech on Mech combat! This is truly where this book excels. The story itself is rather cliche, but it provides a nice launch point for a new universe. Grayson Carlyle is lik This is a great primer for the Battletech Universe. Grayson Carlyle is like many before him – a young man of destiny thrown into the teeth of danger.

After the defeat of his unit, he must face up to an overwhleming enemy and rise to his destiny. We are only briefly introduced to the politics of the Successor States in this book, but I can sense that it will provide a very fertile atmosphere for more stories in the future.

A good starting point, and certainly something fans of the Battletech games should read. This would also be an interesting read for fans of “Giant Robot” anime.

While this is much more grounded in real physics then rjft anime I’ve seen, it might provide an interesting avenue for those fans as well.
